House Fire on Park Avenue

On Wednesday, January 30, at 0347 hours, Oyster Bay Fire Dept responded to a reported house Fire on Park Avenue. Arriving Chief Hambrook, 5502, transmitted a signal 10 and assumed Command. Chief Bellissimo, 5504 acted to secure water supplies for Inbound engines as Fire was blowing out the second floor windows. First due unit ,Tower Ladder 554 stretched a 2 inch line up the stairs under direction of Captain Anthony DeCarolis.

This crew retreated when the roof, dormer, and second floor collapsed. Tower Ladder 554 and East Norwich Ladder 513 went into master stream operations, and the fire was out by approximately 5 am. The house was a total loss and the cause was attributed to combustion of a bag of oily and polyurethane soaked rags, and a freshly polyurethaned second floor. Units transported frozen hose back to the firehouse to be repacked on the trucks when they thawed out.
